H.P. Lovecraft FPS Tobunshi !!KdXGT4MLPGy
Sup, /x/. I'm making a FPS horror game based on H.P. Lovecraft's work. I'd like to know how you guys think I should make it, and by that I mean music being used, weapons, creatures, and anything else. I'm not completely uncreative, I just want to know what everyone else thinks. Right now I'm using music by Dntel and Coil, and I'm still thinking about everything else. What do you guys want to see in it?

Also, any good Sound Effect sites for horror stuff? (free of course.)

Feel free to e-mail me about this for whatever reason.

Wasn't there already one?

Could you do something on the Holders? I have ideas for that. Possibly might do it myself.
>> Anonymous
Cthulhu all the way and no try using people screaming and shit.
>> Anonymous
Take some tips from the "Call of Cthulu" third person game. Incorporate fear as one of the main mechanisms of combat. Also, include an insanity bar like "Indigo Prophecy".
>> Tobunshi !!KdXGT4MLPGy
>>186185
I hate "screamer" games/videos. That's jumpy-horror, not true fear :)

>>186184
Yeah, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Too bad the second one isn't coming out..
>> Anonymous
Get in touch with desudrive, see if they'll make you some weird noises and shit. I can tell them about you if you like.
>> Tobunshi !!KdXGT4MLPGy
>>186191
First of all, I know about the Xbox/PC game.
Second of all, I thought it was really fun, aside from the billions of glitches and terrible AI.
Third of all, "Keep going you idea, but be fucking original.
If nothing else, you other than the Beast in the Cave and Dagon's children, your guns are fucking useless."
Fucking learn English.

Ever heard of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth?

Not to burst your bubble, but

http://www.callofcthulhu.com/

it's been done. It was also terrible. Good choice basing it on Shadow over Innsmouth, but still fucking terrible.

Oh, and don't be a faggot. We don't need Lovecraft sullied any further with derivative video games. Keep going with your idea, but be fucking original. If nothing else, other than the Beast in the Cave and Dagon's children, your guns are fucking useless so an fps is crap. Choose a different fucking background, or come up with your own. Christ.

Sure, I may be a dick who doesn't like his idea. Fine. That doesn't change the fact his idea has already been fucking done.

Tell you what OP - make a Lovecraft FPS that doesn't suck ass and I'll personally suck your cock. Until then, I'll be the lonely asshole on the Island of Dissent.
>> Anonymous
>>186208
desudrive is the skype account that was apparently a portal to hell run by a /b/tard.

As for your idea, I support>>186197in saying come up with something original. If you have the skills to create the engine, all the graphics, and come up with some good gameplay ideas, reinventing the wheel is a waste of your time. Would it really be so hard to get in touch with a writer or a lunatic and get them to create you something? Hell, I might do it for free.
>> Tobunshi !!KdXGT4MLPGy
>>186220
I'm already using ideas from H.P. Lovecraft books, the least I could do is make the rest of it myself.
>> Anonymous
>>186182
What songs are you using by Coil? You may want to contact Sleazy about this though. I don't think he'd mind too much.
>> Anonymous
>>186184
This is a fucking great idea. Not the Holders per se, but base your game on some creepypasta. Think about it - SCP-138 (wikiChan is down if that's not right) could be a fucking epic boss!
>> Tobunshi !!KdXGT4MLPGy
>>186230
I'm using multiple songs. I'm not going to bother contacting anyone, since it's a free game, there shouldn't be any problems.

>>186224
I'm making an original game next, but I want to make a Lovecraft game to get used to the FPS horror genre. That way I'll know what to do and what not to do :)

Alright. But could you just give me a list of the songs being used? I could probably assist in some track selection.

>> Tobunshi !!KdXGT4MLPGy

I haven't gotten that far yet. Coil just happens to be my favorite "creepy music" band.
>> Anonymous
You need a website/forum for this.
>> Anonymous
>>186247
We'll see if it's any good first.

And again, my vote is you go from Lovecraft to CreepyPasta. Throw some of that incoherent shit together and you would have something epic and not derivative. Shadow people. Holders. Odd British people from Padriac Willoughsby and Co. SCP-173.
>> Anonymous
I think the Holders game would be good, with some elements from Lovecraft. Now what would be cool is going into some kind of Alice in Wonderland place and have it suddenly turn into a Silent Hill in Wonderland. I keep having dreams about that shit.
>> Tobunshi !!KdXGT4MLPGy
>>186253
As I mentioned before, I'm going to be doing an original one next. I'll come back for the creepypasta suggestions when that time comes. For now, suggestions on the Lovecraft game, and not on whether I should do it or not. I'm doing it.

I'll get right on that :)
>> Anonymous
>>186257
Whatever. Your game, not mine.

At least go with something obscure. Cthulhu is played out. So is Arkham. Try reading Nyarlothotep, The Terrible Old Man, and Pickman's Model. I'm not choosing these for literary quality, but your average idiot won't know their content and I think you might find some interesting ideas to expand upon.
>> Anonymous
>>186259
YEP, THAT'S SILENT HILL ALRIGHT, COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY SILENT HILL. AND REALLY SCARY TOO, NOT AN ACTION THIRD PERSON SHOOTER.
>> Anonymous
>>186249
Alright, well you should see about getting "How To Destroy Angels" as that's one of their more ambient releases. Also Lustmord and Nurse With Wound would be very fitting.

Just so you guys know, I'm thinking of making a Holders game or something, but I'm more into retro type games, so I'd have no idea how to pull it off.

Some aphex twin would be good creepy music.

You should have a segment of running through a huge labyrinth either being chased by something big and angry or where hysteria makes you think you're being chased.

I don't know if there's a lovecraft story to draw that from, but it'd kick ass.

Make it like 3d monster maze, but even more godly.

You're right, thanks.

"There, on a tombstone of 1768 stolen from the Granary Burying Ground in Boston, sat a ghoul which was once the artist Richard Upton Pickman. It was naked and rubbery, and had acquired so much of the ghoulish physiognomy that its human origin was already obscure. But it still remembered a little English, and was able to converse with Carter in grunts and monosyllables, helped out now and then by the glibbering of ghouls."

Has anyone ever played the Clocktower series? I've only seen a bit of them, but it looked freakier than SH and RE combined.
>> Anonymous
>>186678
Do NOT play that. I guarantee you'll shit bricks so hard you'll have a heart attack.

I've played Silent Hill enough, usually causes me to just stop playing, but I get a decent amount of play before I go chicken.

Resident Evil? Not so bad, I played some 2 and all of 4.

Clock Tower though? I played for like, 10 minutes, and never touched it again. Probably scarred me for life.

Sorry, but I'm against this. The genre just doesn't lend itself to being an FPS. Now if you made a game like MYST with the HPL mythos, that would be cool. I mean, sure, you might have to use a gun a couple of times but you mostly rely on running and hiding to accomplish most of the more threatening goals.

You need to keep the same ending.
i.e. Everyone dies.
The Game ends in hopelessness.
BUT the ironic thing for ANY FPS, is the idea the player *might* win.

Good luck trying to get that to work.

make it kinda like sanity's requiem, where you got like stamina and health, then some mental aspect (sanity, hysteria, fear, apprehension, etc.) that effects the way your character acts, or even the way it responds to controls.

like others have said, lovecraft works dont really give a lot of good material for FPS, it would have to be extremely loosely based.
