>The lawyers called the plaintiffs' allegations "extraordinarily speculative," and said "there is no basis for any conceivable threat" from black holes or other objects the LHC might produce. A hearing on the motion is expected in late July or August.

Aren't their claims of what will be find extraordinarily speculative?
>> Anonymous
>>754707
Not extraordinarily. We have models that state what should form in the collision and they should look like, it's just that we haven't actually seen these particles in the jets of other supercollider experiments. Far less is solidly known about the risks, on the other hand.

All I know is that I've stocked up on crowbars.

It will open up a gateway to hell, like in Doom
>> Anonymous
Oh comeon, lets all be honest with each other, what do we have going on in our lives that being sucked into a hellish parallel dimension via a malfunctioning scientific experiment wouldn't improve upon? I'm crossing my fingers for the 2nd layer of Ba'ator, Dis...but Xen or Mongo are fine too.
>> Anonymous
i've got anything i need to surivive the doom/ zombie apoc. that is gonna happen because of those douches.

im ready, i have extra mag-lights, and a crowbar or two..

He has been waiting for a way out.

And we're gonna give it to him.

Weird things are gonna be happening soon.

SCP's may be a reality.

What bugs me is that the scientists say with seeming certaintly that nothing bad can happen.

What do they plan to do if they're wrong and something bad does happen? "Put your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye" is not a valid shutdown/containment strategy.

I would feel less worried if they had concrete plans to deal with the aftermath if they fuck it up, instead of just saying everything will be okay. Plan for the worst, hope for the best, y'know?
>> Anonymous
>>755244

if they came out and said, " dont worry if this opens up a gate to hell we'll take care of it" wouldn't most people not want to take a chance with turning it on?

im sure they have a plan. they probably just dont want to cause panic.
>> Anonymous
If it does create a black hole we aren't going to be able to do anything about it. The light switch of life will be turned off.

>What bugs me is that the scientists say with seeming certaintly that nothing bad can happen.

IT'S ALMOST AS IF THEY KNOW NOTHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN

Seriously, you fucking morons piss me right off. Scientists - fucking EXPERTS who build this goddamn behemoth - are telling you categorically that NOTHING BAD WILL HAPPEN and all you can do is say "WAAAAH BUT WHAT IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS?"
Oh I'm sorry, now you suddenly know better than the fucking experts do you? Now their "certainty" is no match for you pathetic, ignorant fear-mongering?

>I would feel less worried if they had concrete plans to deal with the aftermath if they fuck it up

WHAT AFTERMATH? They're fucking telling you that nothing bad will happen. They KNOW nothing bad will happen. How the shit can they plan for something that isn't going to happen?

The mere fact that a thread about a scientific instrument is on a PARANORMAL board is what's wrong with you people.

>>755278
>im sure they have a plan. they probably just dont want to cause panic.

A plan for what? What the fuck are you expecting to happen? When they turn it on they're going to sit down and look at a computer screen for several hours.
It's not going to start spewing out pixie shit and unicorn farts. It's a goddamn piece of scientific apparatus, not a magically fel-transporter to the dark-sided dimension of peril.

It amazes me that you people can even dress yourselves.
>> Anonymous
>>755320

Unicorn farts?
Seeing as unicorns and pixies DO NOT exist ...maybe you should reword that .
I think it's simply the anticipation of something bad happening that get's people so carried away ...nothing more..
personally i dont think jack-shit will happen either ...but its fun to pretend
>> Anonymous
>>755308
If it creates a Black Hole it will disappear in .000000000000000000000001 seconds. Not enough to do anything at all.

That's the worst case scenario. A few atoms are pulled in and made extremely small. OH SHI-
(POSSIBLY A FEW MISSING ZEROS IDK LOL)

You all realize hundreds of these events happen annually in the upper atmosphere, right?

It's just a tad infeasible to build a lab that XBOX HUEG. So they built the LHC.

Whereas "THE UNIVERSE WILL EXPLODE IF ANYONE TOUCHES THIS MACHINE" is? Shut up and die. Then kill yourself.

I wouldn't mind if morons like this were ONLY on /x/, but you see this fucking ignorant bullshit everywhere, the same goddamn mindless jackasses mouthing on about crap they don't and can't understand because they're incapable of some basic goddamn logical thought.
I just can't rant at people like this in my every day life.
