/x/...

question... about 16 years ago when I was maybe 5, i was in the childrens section of the library and I was readin the book about aliens.
It was a larger hardcover book written in a very scientific manner, and seemed to be geared towards adults... so i didn't read but was looking at the pictures, and they were these big ful;l page spreads of all these totally bizarr aliens... and there were HUGE coloms of text telling all about the creature and there was a size comparison chart. some of the pictures were of these alien beings attackin men in crazy power-ranger-like space suits... and the pictures were really violent and realistic, like of these crazy alien plants eatin a guy in a blue power-ranger suit shootin a lazer, and CRAZY shit... stuff that SHOULDN'T have been in the childrens section...

does /x/ know what I'm talkin about? and maybe a name or title?

pic not related.

I have a book similar to this, but in no way as cool as you make yours out to be. I wanna know too... bump.

Sir I know exactly what you're talking about, and my friend has that entire series. UFOs, Aliens, Psychics, and those kinds of things. They were black hardcover books with silver print on them. I'm heading over there tomorrow, so if this thread still exists by dinner time I'll get back to you.

sweet... would be awesome..

story:

Item#: SCP-173
Special Containment Procedures: Item SPC-173 is to be kept in a locked container at all times. When personnel must enter SCP-173's container, no fewer than 3 may enter at any time and the door is to be relocked behind them. At all times, two persons must be looking at SCP-173 until all personnel have vacated and relocked the container.
Description: Moved to Site19 1993, little is known about item number SCP-173's origins. It is constructed from concrete and rebar and was once painted with Crylon brand spraypaint.
SCP-173 is animate and malevolent, if given the chance it will kill anyone within its line of site. Its weakness however is that it does not move while being watched. Despite this paralysis it is still highly dangerous, able to cover at least 2 meters in the literal blink of an eye. It typically kills by either snapping the victim's neck from behind, or grabbing the victim's throat and strangling them. Whatever animates SCP-173 does not give it much force with which to break things; as seen above, a large room with unbarred windows is fully capable of containing it. Its grip however is unbreakable, as when it is not moving the statue is as hard and strong as concrete.
While left alone in its room, one can hear a stone-on-stone scraping from within that is believed to be the sound of the SCP-173 moving about.
The reddish brown substance on the floor is a combination of feces and blood. We don't know (nor wish to find out) where it comes from or how it arrives but SCP-173's container will slowly fill with these substances. In order to ensure that bacterial growth within does not begin to damage the building it is contained in, and to maintain some level of sanitation, the enclosure must be cleaned on a bi-weekly basis.

garage sale material probably... name?

I think the books were published by Time Magazine. The ones with the black hardcovers. They had titles based on their subjects. UFOs, Bigfoot, etc.

I have something similar somewhere called "mysterious world" or something.

To be honest, I've never liked this picture with the SCP story. When I first read the original SCP, I was envisioned something more along the lines of a living statue, not some reject from the local piñata store.

I think it may be either Man Before Man or Man After Man. I'm not sure which though

i'm sad /x/...
no delivery...
i'll have to head to the library and see if they still have the book, which is unlikely as they were probably horrified at the content being in the childrens section... if i ever figure it out, I'll share as it's a fuckin must-read/see.

Fuuuuuckkkkkkkkk, I think I know what you're talking about. It was a whole series of hardcover encyclopedia things on the paranormal, right? My secondary school had the lot of them in the library, and I used to read them after school before club activities.

Oh, wait, ONLY aliens? Forget about me, then, the things I read had shit on ghosts and ball lightning and shit too.
>> Anonymous
>>912729

yeah, this was, like, a book taking itself very seriously...
very detailed illustrations of these alien beings in there natural habitat... on waaay distant worlds...

one of them that I remember was a giant thing that looked like a sea cucumber with spikes all over it and tenticals and a big mouth and it was eating one of the spacemen while the other men ran away...

another was a giant planet size clump of, I think, eyeballs... or maybe it was one giant eye...

I have this book, and I am fucking terrified of the pictures of those white, goblin aliens (they glowed and sounded as if they were metal when shot at) which attacked that farm house - especially the one looking through the window ;_;

no... it was written in maybe the 80's judging from what I remember the B&W pic of the author lookin like...

i've kinda given up hope on finding out through the web... too many books written on aliens to narrow it down with my vague memory...

i have to go to the library in a couple days anyways, so I'll hunt for it there...and post the title and some pics cause this book was awesome, and terrifying and I swear to god they better still have it.
>> Anonymous
also, it had crazy birazze aliens... not like greys and stuff, but like I said before and HUGE planet sized cluster of eyeball-type things, and that really tall spikey-green with red spikes and a mouth thing...

and I THINK i remember something looking like a huge monolith, but it was a creature...

sorry I can't narrow it down more... it's been drivin me crazy... trying to remember any things that could help narrow it down... those are the oly aliens I can remember from the book but it had maybe 250 pages or so, was hardcover with MAYBE a green cover, and it was bigger... like probably 15 inches tall or so...

also, thanks to anyone who posted results.
